THE NEWSGHOST, NIGERIA – Late last night, the death of Mallam Abba Kyari, Nigerian president’s chief of staff, was announced on social media by spokesmen of the presidency.
Kyari’s death resulted from the dreaded coronavirus (COVID-19), the spokesmen confirmed.
According to report, Kyari had travelled to Germany in early March with a delegation of other Nigerian government officials to attend a meeting with Siemens AG. On returning to Nigeria, he also attended meetings with senior government officials before showing symptoms of the virus infection.
Before contracting the virus, the deceased was said to have had underlying health problems including diabetes.
Many Nigerians considered Kyari as President Buhari’s handler and one of the most powerful men in the current government regime. His death has been described as the highest profile death due to the coronavirus in the country.
Following his death, Bashir Ahmad, President Muhammadu Buhari’s social media aide, claimed that Kyari was one of the most misunderstood people in the history of Nigeria.
