Commercial bus hijacked in Rivers State

THE NEWSGHOST, NIGERIA – Another commercial bus has been hijacked in Rivers State, few weeks after a similar incident happened along the Ndele-Rumuji axis of the East-West road in Emohua Local Government area of the state.

The commercial bus attacked this time is owned by Rivers Mass Transport Company traveling from Port Harcourt to Owerri, around Isiokpo-Elele Owerri express way.

According to report, there were 18 passengers in the bus including the driver and the conductor, when the bus was intercepted and diverted into the bush by the armed robbers.

Martins Aluziwe, another driver who managed to escape the attack narrated his ordeal and confirmed that soldiers have been deployed into the forest to rescue the travelers.

Recounting the story in a phone interview with journalists, he said:

‘We were heading for Owerri this morning; on getting to Omagwa, I met a co-driver who was also traveling to Owerri.

‘When we got to Isiokpo, towards the bridge leading to Elele, armed robbers attacked us.

‘I escaped because I was at the front; they only shot at my car but could not get anybody inside the vehicle; the bus behind us was attacked and everybody including the driver were abducted.‎’

Nnamdi Omoni, spokesman of the Rivers State Police Command,  said the command has not been briefed on the incident, report says.
