Coronavirus update: Nigeria sees third coronavirus victim

THE NEWSGHOST, NIGERIA – The third verified case of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Nigeria has been reported in Lagos.

According to the Federal Ministry of Health, a Nigerian woman returning to Lagos from the UK was found exhibiting symptoms of the virus after a 14-day period of self-isolation.

Amidst the widespread rumours and national agitation, this confirmation of the spread of the virus has in some ways confirmed fears, and in others, put stories in check.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) tweeted on the incident in the early hours of yesterday after the case was confirmed, reassuring the public that the woman was clinically stable and undergoing treatment at the Infectious Disease Hospital in Lagos.

Nigerians are still being urged to keep up good hygiene practices such as: washing hands thoroughly and regularly; avoiding touching their faces with dirty hands; minimising the amount of surfaces they touch when out; restricting their exposure to crowds; and staying home if they feel sick.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) also advises that people stay informed and fact-check circulating information.
