#MeToo in African tech: Tizeti boss called out for sexual harassment allegation

THE NEWSGHOST, NIGERIA – Kelechi Udoagwu, a former mentee of Kendall Ananyi, the cofounder of Tizeti and wifi.com.ng, spoke up on Twitter about how the Tizeti boss had sexually harassed her while visiting the Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST) in Ghana where she was undergoing training.

In her tweet, Kelechi described how Kendall had pulled out and dropped his penis in her hands, then begged her for anything she could do.

According to Kelechi, speaking up at this time was not motivated by revenge against Kendall but by solidarity for Uwa, a 22-year old girl who was recently raped and murdered in Nigeria.

Kendall is yet to respond to this allegations. He made his tweets private since the news hit the twitterverse. However, according to a recent report, Tizeti has released a statement sympathising with anyone who has been a victim of sexual harassment and assuring the public that it will investigate the matter further.

The silence from the tech ecosystem in Nigeria on the matter is particularly disturbing for Kelechi. In a follow up tweet, she describes the ecosystem as a ‘useless community’.
