Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer disbarred in Nigeria

THE NEWSGHOST, NIGERIA – Emeka Ephraim Ugwuonye, said to be one of the lawyers hired by Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, to secure his release from Kuje Prison has been disbarred from Nigeria’s legal practice.

The Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) issued the sanction after finding him guilty of fraud.

Report says Ugwuonye had also been disbarred in three states in the US, namely Washington DC, New York, and Maryland, for professional misconduct.

J.S. Okutepa, the Chief Prosecutor of the Nigeria Bar Association at the LPDC has promised to give details of the direction of LPDC in due time.

However, LPDC has urged the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nigeria to strike out Ugwuonye’s name.

Ugwuonye has 28 days to appeal the ruling of LPDC.
