Original R2-D2 used in Star Wars films sells at $2.7 million

THE NEWSGHOST, NIGERIA – In an auction opened last weekend by Profiles in History, an auction house based in Calabasas, California, an original R2-D2 droid (robot) used in several George Lucas’ Star Wars films sold for nearly $3 million.

According to report, the 43-inch (110cm) tall droid was compiled from parts used throughout filming of the original trilogy.

The droid was sold on Wednesday, June 28, 2017. In a tweet, Profiles in History revealed that the R2-D2 from Star Wars sold for $2,750,000.

There was no information about the passionate fan who bought the droid.

The R2-D2 was the most expensive item offered for sale at the movie memorabilia auction that featured several other items from the Stars Wars movie franchise.

Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber from the first two films and Darth Vader’s helmet from the original film sold for $450,000 and $96,000 respectively at the auction.
