THE NEWSGHOST, NIGERIA – Today, in Abuja, Justice Bode-Rhodes Vivour of the Supreme Court of Nigeria (SCN) declared Ahmed Makarfi as the authentic leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), according to report.
The ruling resolves the leadership crisis rocking the opposition party.
Report says many members of the party including former governors and incumbent lawmakers had decamped from the party owing to the division in its leadership.
The Ali Modu Sheriff-led faction of the party was dissolved at the party’s national convention on May 21, 2016. But Ali Modu Sheriff and his supporters had refused to accept the resolution made by the party members at the convention.
The court acknowledged that the PDP national convention conducted on May 21 was not illegal. Justice Vivour said, ‘The national convention did not violate any court orders.’
Vivour explained that the national convention should not have been disregarded by the appeal court.
The supreme court also accused Sheriff of ‘forum shopping’. Justice Vivour said Sheriff ‘displayed infantile desperation to cling to office at all cost’, another report confirms.
