Year of Return: Ghana hosts African diaspora on Ghanaian soil

THE NEWSGHOST, NIGERIA – This year, with a first of its kind homecoming event dubbed the ‘Year of Return – Ghana 2019‘, Ghana hosts the largest number of African diaspora on its home soil.

This event is intended to commemorate the 400-year anniversary of the arrival of the first enslaved African people in what is now the United States of America.


According to report gathered, the event which kicked off in February with the Black History Month and the 5th edition of the African Culture and Wellness Festival (ACAWF) is expected to end with the Afrochella 2019 in December.

Black History Month is celebrated in February every year by the African American Association of Ghana (AAAG) to highlight and educate the Ghanaian community at large on the experiences, achievements and successes of African Americans throughout history.

While the Afrochella 2019 is a festival designed to highlight and elevate thrilling and thriving millennial talent from and within Africa.
